WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he's whittled down his list of potential Federal Reserve chair candidates to four as he considers a successor to Jerome Powell — a choice that could reset the path of the US economy.

President Trump said he's down to four potential replacement for Fed Chair Jay Powell, but ruled out Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as one of them in an interview on Tuesday.

The Treasury secretary has said he has “the best job in Washington,” although he has often been floated as a name for the top job at the central bank.
