Ukraine can make independent sovereign decisions in its negotiations with Russia. The European Union will support them, European Commission spokesperson Arianna Podestà said in a commentary available to RBC-Ukraine.

President Trump said a deal would involve "some swapping of territories to the betterment of both." Kyiv and its European allies say ceding land would only encourage Russian aggression.

Ukraine and its allies are concerned that President Trump and President Vladimir V. Putin will do a deal without them and then impose it on Kyiv.
