OpenAI launched its most advanced language model Thursday with the release of GPT-5, a flagship product the company says will enhance ChatGPT as it reportedly nears a $500 billion valuation and aims to stave off competitors in Google, Anthropic and more.

OpenAI’s much‑anticipated livestream reveal of GPT‑5 crammed a lot into about an hour and a half of announcements and demonstrations. CEO Sam Altman didn't show any of the fear he claimed to feel about the new AI model, just a lot of pride at what he and his team had accomplished.

ChatGPT has got its first major update in years in the form of GPT-5. The GPT models are the AI technology that underpin ChatGPT. The new version will be available to all 700 million users of ChatGPT, its makers OpenAI said.
