The list of candidates to succeed Fed Chair Jerome Powell has been cut down to four after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent dropped out of consideration, President Donald Trump said Tuesday amid his growing feud with Powell over the agency’s decision to hold interest rates.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he would announce decisions soon on a short-term replacement for Federal Reserve Governor Adriana Kugler, who announced her resignation on Friday, as well as his pick for the next Fed chair.

The president, in an interview on CNBC’s Squawk Box, said Bessent told him Monday evening that he does not want the job as central bank head.
