CONGRESSIONAL RECESS: Members of Congress have headed home for their summer recess. Several lawmakers are holding town halls tonight, including Rep. Mike Flood, R-Neb., Rep. Troy Carter, D-Iowa, and Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich.

Redistricting typically occurs once per decade in each state following the census. But Texas Republicans broke that tradition last week by proposing a new map mid-decade after Trump pushed them to redraw the state’s congressional districts so that the GOP would be more likely to win more seats in the midterm elections next year.

Three Democrats who fled Texas to block a GOP effort to redraw congressional maps told CBS News they'll stay out of the state for at least two weeks.
